meet Mr. Churchill
Hello Everyone!
I am in my 14th year as an educator. This is my fourth year as the Itinerant for Safe and Inclusive Schools in the Burin and Vista regions of the Central Region, NLESD. I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the 28 schools in the Burin & Vista regions as we work towards building safe, caring, healthy, and inclusive learning environments. Moreover, I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in the Avalon, Western, and Labrador regions.
I have taught at several schools in Vista region of the NLESD, which include: Random Island, Bishop White School, Heritage Collegiate, Clarenville Middle School, Clarenville High School, and Tricentia Academy. Finally, I would be remiss if I did not mention that I also spent the fall of 2014 at Riverside Elementary where I completed my internship as a Guidance Counsellor. I am looking forward to connecting with my past schools and building new relationships with the staff and students on the Burin peninsula and in the other Vista region schools.
I have a Bachelor of Arts (Major: English), Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Secondary), and Masters of Education (Counselling Psychology). I have taught just about every ELA course from Grade 6-12, as well as a variety of other subjects in humanities and sciences.
I am also often found in the extra curricular activities in schools. I have coached volleyball for 6 of my 7 years as a teacher. I coach Cross Country skiing for the Clarenville Nordic Ski Club, I have also led an Outdoor adventure club, and I am a trained Sprockids leader!
Lastly, and on a personal note, some of my interests are being a Dad, cross country skiing, cycling, running, camping, hiking, fishing, cooking, gardening, guitar, reading, writing, politics, spending time with my wife. Finally, my wife and I love spending time with our son Oliver, our dog Prince, and her royal highness: Alexus the cat.
I look forward to getting to know the staff and students in the Vista & Burin regions, their parents/guardians, and the people who surround the schools in the various communities! I'm certain this year will be one that I won't soon forget!
Mr. Churchill
