It's hard to believe, but the first term of the 2013-14 school year is finished, and we're moving right along with Term 2.  It seems as though every year I teach, time flashes by with much greater speed than the year preceding it.  Most years I have begun my English Language Arts classes with a journal about one's GOALS for this school year.  This year my students wrote about goals involving improving academics, improving study habits, improving time management skills, and other school related issues.  Secondly, they chose goals related to their personal life, which were a mix of making hockey all star teams, refining volleyball skills, exercising regularly, and eating well.  It's time to evaluate their progress so far.

How have you done with the goals you have set?  Has your report card indicated that you're making progress towards the average you wished to achieve in math? Are your study habits improving? Have you learned how to better manage your time?  Reflecting on one's goals and progress is a valuable life skill.  Take time reflect on your progress and think about where you are in terms of achieving your goal.  The good thing is, we're only 1/3 of the way through this school year, so there is time to work on these goals!  Personally, I need to re-evaluate waking up early enough each morning to walk Prince around Shoal Harbour - I have not done well with that goal.  Was it realistic? Was it attainable?  Perhaps, but maybe that extra bit of sleep in the morning is the extra boost I need to be at my best during the days.

As we move forward in Term 2, and as 2013 comes to an end, reflect on your goals and progress.  Make the necessary changes that will help you attain the goals you have set.  Finally, reach out for help if you need it!  You can do it, but it's up to you!

Until next time,

Mr. C

P.S.  I would love some feedback/comments!  Anyone out there in cyberspace reading this?  Leave something below!
